Some people like to rock Some people like to roll
moving and a-grooving gonna satisfy my soul
let's have a party ooh let's have a party
swinging to the store let's rock some more let's have a party tonight
Hi Larissa! I loved your chapter ending for AJ ten years later. It was fun to revisit characters I hadn't thought about in a while. I liked the way you wrote in "AJ's voice!"
I'll bet that Erika has something of a "star" inside her. I think she was my favorite character because she's the one who changed the most. Ruthie is probably the character who was most like me (but the book is not an autobiography!)
I think that a good story can take "pieces" of real life and show us our real lives in different ways. So even though a novel is fiction, about fictional people, it can still have some "truth" in it that we can relate to. Sometimes I won't even realize I have a problem or an insecurity until I write about it. Seeing a character go through something that you're going through can help you see your problems in new ways! I wrote the book when I was 18, and I've written 3 novels since then: Soulfire, Dancer, and Lives of Our Own, all published in the USA under Dutton Children's Books, Penguin USA. Each book I think captures a moment in time. When I was writing Coming of Age, I was having the same questions about who I was and hopes/fears for the future as my characters, and I can see that more as I look at the book now!
Once again, I enjoyed your comments, and I wonder if you ever do any writing of your own. I'll bet you'd be good at it!
